Thimoteus’ story

The Stanley Shaldon Award was very important for my career. In the meantime, I have received three calls to the position of Full Professor and Clinic Director for Nephrology. Since October 1, 2022, I have been Director of the Department of Nephrology at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. At the same time, I head the Else Kröner-Fresenius Center for Nephrological Research in Frankfurt. I believe that the Stanley Shaldon Award, as a great and honorable award in European nephrology, played an important role in my application for a chair. I am therefore very grateful to have received this award.

At the Else Kröner-Fresenius Center, we are investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of cardiovascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease. A particular focus here is the role of inflammation and the hematopoietic system. It is very important to me to support young colleagues in their careers. This includes, for example, the opportunity to rotate in our laboratories for a certain period of time during their specialist training. At the same time, several Clinician Scientist Programs in Frankfurt, in which we are also actively involved, offer an excellent opportunity to take the path to scientific independence. At the same time, it is also very important to me to introduce young colleagues to European nephrology. This includes participation in the ERA Congress, but also the opportunity to apply for ERA awards.
